A Sonnet for a Future Day
Joanna Friedman
issue three
My father’s ashes will float above the lake,
remains of him, one day, it will be all.
A telescope, piano keys, a wake
of science studies on Magnesium.
From his canoe I see his cabin hide,
the furniture he built awaits his reads.
Flower’s will bloom wild without his eye.
The spinach in the garden will hide in weeds.
The dog will run back home, without his call
The Peach trees blossom in the spring,
his voice, and noticing the world for all
will be absent in the doorbell’s ring.
Lilies bounce alive against the lakes surface,
And embrace the reflection of his curious face.
