Petals Fall, Petals Dream
Maudie Bryant
issue three
Friend, lean in,
speak of peace.
Words drop
from the dying
of our voices, petals
on unyielding earth,
tugging restless bones.
Your shadow is mine,
a reflection in
the cracked glass
of our ribcages—
the cracked glass
in cellphone cases—
where life hums with hope,
tracing lines between scars,
mapping our wars.
We carry yearning
in our aching souls—
buds too tired to bloom.
In this silence,
we speak of peace
like a lost love.
Lean in, friend,
you’re not
the only one
bleeding
quiet.
