Poetry

Beyond the Bracken

Nancy Bryne Iannucci
issue four

I may see the world in slow motion,

but I saw you four times faster

than you saw me,

 a visitation pulsating

in hues of indigo.

Unlike blood-red orange,

a demonic shadow

that blends like sparks

in a brush fire.

You stand there

in the still twilight,

knowing I’m crepuscular,

defying all

that is known

to ensnare me.

I resist

my instincts

to run.

Could it be

a true friend awaits

beyond the bracken?
