First light
Owen Habel Lwanda
issue five
He watches him across the courtyard,
Sunlight catching the curve of his smile
And the way his hair falls just so.
His heart drifts, uncertain,
A small paper boat on a restless sea.
Every step toward him feels heavy,
Every glance a storm.
He imagines—just for a heartbeat—
Leaning close, the brush of lips,
The quiet thrill of something forbidden
And beautiful.
But words stick in his throat,
Fingers curl, toes grip the earth,
And all he can do is hope
That courage will bloom
Before the moment slips away.
