SATURDAY IN THE PARK

John Grey
issue six

On my walk through the park,
I disturb a squirrel.
It jumps from ground to tree.
From its tree trunk perch,
it pauses, relaxes,
realizes I am no danger.

In a nod to simple beauty,
white flowers cluster
in the hawthorn.
I bend to savor
their delicate perfumes.

Three lives come together –
mine, the squirrel’s,
the small white
blossoming.
We are all the better
for the convergence.
